It will just set you up for future leaks and other problems where the seam will be. Since you will have to remove the trim around the unit to fix it anyway, it would be wise to just replace all of it.

- I do have an option but the only way to confirm fit of the SolidStep Manual Fold-Down Steps like part # LC698799 on a trailer with a step-up directly behind the door would be to test fit. I don't think fit would be able to be accurately determined beforehand by measuring. There is a bracket which positions the bulk of the step up from the door sill but it could still not be enough to overcome the step-up.
Instead, I think a much better option would be the TorkLift GlowStep Revolution Scissor...
